The head of Poland’s Supreme Court has attacked the government’s latest plans to overhaul the judicial system, warning that they could lead to Poland leaving the EU. The warning from Malgorzata Gersdorf is the latest salvo in a bitter battle over the rule of law in Poland that dominated the ruling Law and Justice party’s first term in office. The issue, which has soured relations between Warsaw and Brussels, has flared up again since Jaroslaw Kaczynski’s party won re-election in October.
